Physical education and sport are the business card of any nation, and the health and development of society as a whole depends on how physical exercise is used for the benefit of each citizen. Today there is no range of human activity that is not directly dependent on physical education and sport, which are material and spiritual values recognized by society as a whole and by each individual. It is not coincidence that recently there is more and more talk about physical education as an independent social phenomenon, but also as a means of educating human personality. Scientists in the field of physical education and sport mention in their works that “the cheapest medicine preparation for the whole society is physical education and sport, as component parts of the general social culture”. The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports was founded by the decision of the SUPES senate on August 24, 2022, in the context of the merger of the Faculty of Pedagogy and Sport.
The Faculty of Physical Education and Sports continues the old traditions of professional pedagogical training of specialists in the field of educational sciences (Physical Education), sports sciences (Sports Training, Fitness and recreation programs) and Public Services (Hotel Services, tourism and leisure) by training integrative skills, traditions initiated since the existence of the Faculty of Physical Education within "Ion Creanga" State Pedagogical University, and since 1991 within the National Institute of Physical Education and Sports, later the State University of Physical Education and Sports.
Currently, the teaching staff represents a harmonious combination of teachets with rich experience and a long tenure of university teaching work, assistants, university lecturers, university professors, merited coaches, with work potential, receptive to the new methodological guidelines of university education.
The didactic process at the faculty is organized in strict accordance with the educational standards of national and European education, respecting advanced pedagogical, psychological and methodological objectives, with the subsequent elaboration of original innovative concepts, in order to streamline the training of a generation of physical education teachers, psychopedagogues, trainers in various sports events, specialists in the field of fitness, tourism, in accordance with the needs of employers in the field, both in a national and international context. In order to effectively carry out practical activities, the faculty concludes collaboration agreements with the Federations of athletics, judo, wrestling, football, swimming, rugby, lawn tennis, table tennis, badminton, sports tourism, sports orienteering and others, as well as with a series of sports institutions and organizations: Republican Sports Boarding High School with, Sports School "Speranța", "Olimpia" Sports Club, Republican Sports School of Wrestling, Specialized Football Sports School, Specialized Table Tennis Sports School Dubăsari, Sports School lawn tennis in Chisinau, Sports School No. 2, Balti, Handball Sports Club "Olimpus" and various fitness centers, but also enterprises in the field of tourism in Chisinau and in the Republic of Moldova.
In the context of current challenges, the interaction between the faculty, society, employers, beneficiaries, similar institutions, becomes an indispensable necessity, which aims to strengthen the position of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport as a performing educational and research center among similar faculties in the Republic of Moldova, which prepares specialists in the field of the science of education, sports and public services, through: its visibility on various social platforms; working with practicing specialists, with graduates of the faculty; employers, the development of international collaborations with similar abroad institutions and faculties.
Currently, the faculty is proud of its graduates, performance athletes: Larisa Popova, Nicolae Juravschi, Tudor Casapu – Olympic Champions; Sergiu Mureico and Natalia Valeeva, winners of the Olympic Games; Igor Bacal, Ion Bucsa, Vadim Tatarov, Alexandru Zaharov, Octavian Gutu, Roman Rozna, Ina Gliznuta, Olga Bolsova, Vadim Zadoinov, Iurie Bascatov, Victor Bivol, Victor Florecu, Ghenadie Tulbea, Mocrousov Elena and many others.
In the component of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, three departments are active: the Department of Physical Culture, Psychopedagogy, Management and Modern Languages; Sports Games Department and Martial Arts and Gymnastics Department.
In accordance with the education reform in the Republic of Moldova and the imperatives of the Bologna Process, the students of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports study in the general fields of study 100 Sports Sciences, 011 Educational Sciences, 101 Public Services, achieving one of the specialties:

Cycle I – bacherol studies:

  • 1000.1 Sports training (coach in the chosen sports event) (duration of studies - 4 years).
  • 0114.16 Physical education (duration of studies - 3 years).
  • 1000.3 Fitness and recreation programs (duration of studies - 3 years).
  • 1013.1 Hotel services, tourism and leisure (duration of studies - 3 years).
Cycle II – master's studies:
  • Sports training technology (duration study - 1.5 years) – 90 ECTS.
  • Sports training technology (duration study – 2 years) – 120 ECTS.
  • Psychopedagogy of physical education and sports (duration of studies – 2 years) – 120 ECTS.
  • Physical culture theory and methodology (duration of study – 2 years) – 120 ECTS.
  • Management and marketing education in sports (duration of studies – 2 years) – 120 ECTS.
  • Technologies and management in fitness (duration of studies – 2 years) – 120 ECTS.
  • Technologies and management in tourism (duration of study – 2 years) – 120 ECTS.
The training of specialists in the field of physical culture and sport is determined by the imperatives of modern society, by the need to affirm the university education of physical culture in the Republic of Moldova on an international level and to fit it into the European and world university environment. For this purpose, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports proposes as its basic objective the internationalization of higher education in physical culture and sport in order to ensure the quality of the instructional-educational process through:
  • promoting effective cooperation with educational centers abroad;
  • participation in international educational and scientific projects;
  • the internship of students and master's students of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport at specialized university abroad centers;
  • organization of sports competitions and common camps.
The network of international relations established by the Faculty of Sport through collaboration agreements with National University of Physical Education and Sport in Ukraine, with the faculties of physical education and sport in Romania (“Dunarea de Jos” University of Galati, “A.I.Cuza” University of Iasi, “Stefan cel Mare” University of Suceava, Ecological University of Bucharest, “Vasile Alecsandri” University of Bacau, University of Pitesti to contribute to the improvement of the instructive-educational process and of the scientific research activity in the field of sport, by elaborating or modernization of programs, theoretical and practical courses.
The governing body of the faculty is the Council of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport. Members of the Faculty Council are persons with scientific and scientific-didactic titles and students who make decisions regarding the academic and cultural life of the faculty.

Through its activity, the Council of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports constantly improves, based on the new educational standards, the forms of training and education of students, in accordance with the Education Code of the Republic of Moldova and the Institutional Development Strategy of SUPES (2021 – 2025).
