History of Aquatic sports and tourism chair
The Chair of Aquatic sports and tourism was founded in 1977 within the State Pedagogical Institute "Ion Creanga". Since 1991, within the National Institute of Physical Education and Sports, it has been renamed the Department of Aquatic sports and tourism.
From its foundation until now, the department has registered a rich experience in the field, completing its scientific-pedagogical potential with highly qualified teachers with 2 university professors, 3 PhD in pedagogical sciences and associate professors, 1 Emeritus Coach of the Republic of Moldova, 2 PhD students.
The Aquatic sports and Tourism Chair represents one of the basic structural subdivisions with a methodological-didactic character of the Faculty of Pedagogy, which has a priority direction in organizing and training at a high level the students and masters in Aquatic sports and Hotel, Tourism and Leisure Services.
The Aquatic sports and Tourism Chair is a basic didactic-scientific structural subdivision, which ensures the planning, organization, scientific-methodical training activities in the field of Aquatic sports and Hotel , Tourism and Leisure services.
The purpose and objectives of the Chair
The purpose of the Chair is to train gifted and intelligent specialists, possessors of extensive knowledge in the field of Aquatic sports and Hotel , Tourism and Leisure services, ingenious in solving the most complex managerial problems and difficulties encountered in the swimming process. It offers possibilities to accumulate the necessary volume of theoretical and practical knowledge for the training of young specialists.
The basic objective of the chair's activity is to train qualified specialists in the field of Aquatic sports and Hotel , Tourism and Leisure services. The development of the instructive-educational process consists in providing students with knowledge that will facilitate the formation of professional-pedagogical skills, to ensure the mastery of swimming technique, scientific methods of instruction and training, to be subsequently applied in swimming lessons on training performance athletes and the spread of mass swimming. In order to ensure an efficient activity, the chair collaborates with the other didactic-scientific subdivisions of SUPES and other specialized institutions in the country and abroad.
The organizational and functional activities of the chair are carried out in accordance with the priority objectives of the Curriculum, the training taking place in the manner and conditions established by the current requirements imposed by the Bologna Process.
The objectives of the chair are to provide opportunities by:
Improving curricula and analytical programs, as well as the content of courses and application papers, in order to deepen the specialized training of students and align with European standards in order to create the conditions for international recognition of bachelor's degrees;
Implementation of new modern educational technologies in the university curricular area through the equitable organization of courses, seminars, practical works;
Adapting a flexible study program in accordance with current requirements/conditions;
Developing the learning process in order to know, understand the basic concepts, theories and methods in the field of specialty;
Improving the material and information conditions offered to students by developing, updating and modernizing textbooks, courses, application papers and equipping the department's laboratory with modern equipment;
Training of professional and intellectual skills in theoretical classes, seminars, practices and internships;
Training the skills and competencies necessary to place graduates on the labor market;
Training of specialists with higher education in the field of tourism (hotel restaurant activity) and aquatic sports;
Extension of education through collaboration with other institutions regarding the degree of interactivity and mobility in the relationship with students;
Extending the cooperation of universities with the same profile from other countries, which would allow students but also teachers to know and acquire the positive experience developed in the field of tourism and swimming services.
The technical-material basis of the chair. The technical-material base of the Aquatic sports and Tourism chair corresponds to the requirements of ensuring the efficient instructional-educational process and scientific research. The chair is equipped with a methodological-scientific laboratory, which has high-performance equipment for organizing scientific research, in order to improve the training process of performance athletes and teachers in the field of swimming and tourism.
The technical-material base of the Aquatic Sports and Tourism Chair is situated at the Swimming Pool (78, 31 August 1989, str.)
Currently, the swimming pool is a Republican Center for Water Sports, equipped with the necessary equipment for training professionals in this field. The chair also has 2 methodical offices, one located in block II of SUPES (office 107), the second inside the swimming pool which is equipped with the necessary technique for carrying out the instructive-educational process.
The didactic and scientific directions of the chair
The basic directions regarding scientific research are:
• Improving the sports training system in swimming at different stages of professional training of athletes;
• Improving the content of studies in higher education institutions for the training of specialists in the field of Aquatic Sports and Tourism;
• Professional training of specialists in the field of Hotel, Tourism and Leisure Services.
Achievements of the chair
Over the years, the Chair of Aquatic Sports and Tourism has initiated a series of activities on improving the quality of the educational process within SUPES:
Projects:
• Project for young researchers "Socialization of adolescents through the practice of active tourism" with the number 18.80012.08.31A;
• Strategies for implementing diagnostic methods in the training process and competitions of performance athletes from the national teams of the Republic of Moldova, with the number 11.817.08.50A;
• Theoretical-methodological and empirical bases of pre-university and university education in physical culture, with the number 08.817.08.005F;
• „Scientific-methodical assurance of the training process of the national teams of the Republic of Moldova for the Olympic Games, European and world championships, with the number 15.817.06.26F;
Scientific conferences of students:
• Current issues of the theory and practice of aquatic sports and tourism;
• Active tourism - factor of socialization of adolescents.
• Sustainable tourism for developing relationships and perspectives.

1. Methodological-practical seminar "Achievements and Perspectives in Aquatic Sports in the Republic of Moldova";
2. Methodological-practical seminar: "Swimming-important factor in sanogenic activity";

Training of doctoral students. The Chair of Aquatic Sports and Tourism directs the research activity of doctoral students, which is an essential and distinct component of the activity of teachers and scientists. The defining mission regarding the development of the research activity that focused on the fundamental research, combined in a balanced way with the applied research, the technological development, the design, the consultancy and the expertise. It is one of the mandatory and primary criteria for assessing the professional value of PhD students. Because, this research outlines the result of the teachers' activity, beyond the strictly scientific aspect, they emphasize the collaboration between members with different levels of training, and for young researchers being a means of acquiring the techniques and skills necessary for a real scientist. So far, 27 doctoral theses have been defended in the department. And at the moment, 4 PhD students continue their scientific activity at the department.
Graduate students, who have achieved remarkable results in sports in the international arena, emeritus coaches, national team coaches, school principals, deputies, ministers, deputy ministers, who have obtained state and international distinctions.
During the professional activity, the Chair of Aquatic Sports and Tourism trained and promoted notorious personalities, who asserted themselves in various fields of activity: science, education, sports.
The good professional training of students focused on highly qualified in the field, participation in sports activities of different levels ensures the prestige of the department, which have become emeritus coaches and masters of sports of the Republic of Moldova: G. Solonenco, A. Postovoi, L. Pohilenco, A. Gulico, A. Tudose, V. Strogov, E. Stupac, G. Osipov, S. Postica, V. Melnicov.
